Jumpstarting Your Creative Process in Three Easy Steps

One of the biggest challenges for aspiring creative writers is generating ideas. Being able to write is one thing, but being able to write original thoughts is an entirely different ball game. It can be difficult to think of things as you are constantly being barraged with accomplished ideas whenever you read a book or watch a movie. Here are some tips on how to improve your own creative output.

First, write every day. The process of writing breeds ideas as you are stimulating your mind and forcing it to generate content. When you're left without ideas, just doing a general free write, either with a prompt or without can help you come up with unique ideas.

Second, provide stimulus for your brain. Doing activities will help you build a catalog of experiences from which you can draw upon when trying to write. Don't be afraid to try new things or go places you normally would avoid, for the good of the writing. If it makes a good story to tell a friend, it probably can make a good story for you to write.

Finally, share your ideas with other people. In forums of discussion, you'll find yourself expanding upon your ideas and also, getting more ideas from other peoples suggestions. In much the same way that plants need sunlight to grow, ideas need to be shared to develop.

These are just a few ways in which you can improve your craft as a writer and become more creative. So don't waste any time. Get out there, and get generating.
