When Your Children Are With the Other Parent

Divorce divides the homes into two and children end up living and growing up in two places. The transition should be very smooth for children and also parents concentrate on ensuring that it is done. In the mean time, most parents forget about themselves. Once their children are spending time with the other parent, what would you do? If parents do not plan something for themselves, then they can get extremely distressed, lonely and depressed.

It may be difficult for you to cope with new circumstances. You will feel lonely; you will miss the children and also feel left out. However, it is very important for you to plan a schedule for yourself so that it will help you cope with single status better.

Before the kids leave to visit the other parent, plan something for yourself. If the visitation is on weekends, then make some weekend plan. There may be several things or hobbies that you would have wanted to pursue. Use the time to make them come true. You can go for a movie, read a book you have always wanted to, take up gardening, enroll in a dance or painting class, or spend time with a good friend.

Also use the time when your kids are away to set the house right or spend time doing household chores. Try to spend time with family and friends. Never be lonely, especially in the evenings.

Have something to look forward to every holiday or weekend. Get used to taking holidays on your own and exploring places. Develop a new hobby or interest so that it keeps you busy.

Do not start calling your children and disturbing them when they are spending time with the other parent. Instead make time to call your friends and people who you have lost touch with.
